01About This Plugin

Rapls Copy Notice (the free plugin) is a WordPress plugin that detects when a visitor selects and copies text from the body of a post, records what was copied in your site’s database, and tells the site administrator by email. Rapls Copy Notice Pro (the paid add-on; together with the free plugin, “the Plugin”) adds statistics, notifications to Slack, Chatwork, Discord and webhooks, routing rules, repost detection, CSV export and a multisite overview.

The Plugin does not prevent copying. It has no feature that blocks selecting text, copying or right-clicking.

Pro does not work on its own. The free plugin, version 1.3.19 or later, must be installed and active. Sections tagged “Pro” apply to Pro only. Please read the following disclaimer carefully before using the Plugin.

02Copy Detection

Copies are detected by JavaScript running in the visitor’s browser, which receives the copy action for text selected in the post body. We make no guarantee that every copy is detected or recorded. For example, nothing is recorded when:

• JavaScript is turned off in the browser, or the detection script is not loaded or not run because of a browser extension, an optimisation plugin or similar
• The content is obtained without selecting and copying it (viewing the page source or fetching the HTML directly, feeds, reader views, screenshots, printing, retyping it by hand and so on)
• The selection is shorter than the minimum length you set (20 characters by default), comes from a post type that is not monitored or from outside the post body, or comes from an excluded role, IP address or post
• The theme’s markup keeps the post body from being found
• The acceptance limits are exceeded (by default 10 per minute from one IP address and 500 per hour for the whole site)

The detection can be bypassed. The Plugin does not identify the person who copied. A record is also sent by the visitor’s browser, and the Plugin cannot confirm that it came from a real action. Please treat the records as an indication.

03Notifications

Email notifications are sent with WordPress’s own mail function. Whether they arrive depends on your server’s mail setup, SMTP and similar plugins, and the recipient’s spam filtering, none of which we control. The hourly summary and the deletion of records past their retention period run through WP-Cron. WP-Cron is driven by visits to your site, so on a quiet site notifications and deletion can be delayed. Sending one email per copy has an hourly cap; copies over it go into the summary.

Pro’s chat and webhook notifications depend on the availability and specifications of each service or destination. We do not guarantee that notifications arrive, or that they arrive within any particular time.

04Visitor Information and the Site Owner’s Responsibility

The Plugin records the copied text (up to 500 characters), the length of the selection, the post, the date and time, the browser’s user agent, the referring host name and the IP address. By default the IP address is shortened before it is stored (the last part of an IPv4 address, or the last 80 bits of an IPv6 address, are removed). Choosing not to shorten it is the site owner’s decision. By default, records are deleted automatically after 90 days.

Informing visitors, and meeting the laws that apply to your site, are the site owner’s responsibility. The Plugin adds suggested wording for your privacy policy to WordPress’s guide under Settings → Privacy. It is a suggestion. Please check and adjust it to match your site’s actual setup (whether addresses are shortened, how long records are kept, which external services Pro uses, and so on).

05External Services Pro

Pro communicates with Slack, Chatwork, Discord, your own webhook, Brave Search API and SerpApi only when the site owner has set them up and switched them on. The accounts, the safekeeping of API keys and tokens, compliance with each service’s terms, and any fees are the site owner’s responsibility and cost. Repost detection searches are billed to your own account with the search service. The daily limit on the settings screen caps how many are made, but we accept no responsibility for any charges incurred.

Chat services and webhooks receive an excerpt of the copied text, the post title and URL, the shortened IP address, the user agent and similar details. Search services receive only a phrase of up to 40 characters taken from a post you published, and your site’s host name; no visitor data is sent. Changes to, or the discontinuation of, any of these services can stop the related features from working. The free plugin does not communicate with any external service.

06Repost Detection Pro

Repost detection is off by default. When it is on, phrases from frequently copied paragraphs are searched for on the web once a day, and pages containing them are listed. A page found this way is a lead to look into, not evidence of reposting or copyright infringement. The same phrase also turns up in quotations, common expressions, licensed reposts and your own publication elsewhere. Pages the search service does not index cannot be found, so not every repost will be.

Always check the content yourself before contacting anyone or filing a takedown request. We do not judge whether a page found infringes any right, and we accept no responsibility for the results of such judgements or of any action taken on them.

07Licence and Updates Pro

Pro is a one-time purchase. A valid licence is required to use Pro’s features and to receive its updates. A licence is tied to the sites it is activated on (1 site or 5 sites). A multisite network needs the 5-site licence, which then covers every site in the network. Checking the licence (once a day) and fetching updates require communication with our licence server (raplsworks.com). The free plugin’s updates come from WordPress.org.

If the licence server cannot be reached, Pro does not stop. Pro’s features stop only when the licence server explicitly answers that the licence is no longer valid (after a refund, for a revoked key, or for a site that holds no seat). Even then, your log and settings are not deleted, and the free plugin keeps working. Licence keys do not expire. Updates after purchase have no time limit. Support is provided for one year from purchase. No renewal plan is sold. We do not guarantee the availability of the licence server, nor the provision of updates for any particular period.

08No Warranty and Limitation of Liability

1. We make no warranty, express or implied, that the Plugin and the services provided through it are free from defects in fact or in law, including as to accuracy, completeness, effectiveness, reliability, safety, legality or fitness for a particular purpose. We also make no warranty that it is free from security flaws, errors or bugs.

2. We make no warranty in respect of the following:

• That it will work correctly on every server and every WordPress environment
• That it will keep working correctly when WordPress, PHP, browsers or other software are updated
• That every copy will be detected, recorded and notified
• That it is compatible with third-party plugins and themes, in particular caching, optimisation and mail-sending plugins
• That it will operate continuously and without error under all conditions

3. We do not warrant to users that we will remedy, at our own responsibility and expense, any defect covered by the two preceding paragraphs. We accept no liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages arising from use of the Plugin, including delayed or missing notifications, loss of records, fees charged by external services, and disputes with third parties arising from action taken on repost detection results.

09Handling of Data

The Plugin stores its copy records and settings on your own server (the WordPress database). It never sends your copy records to our servers. The free plugin does not communicate with our servers or with any external service, sets no cookies and creates no visitor identifier.

For licence activation and update checks, Pro sends the licence key, the email address, the site URL (the network’s main URL on multisite) and the installed version to our licence server (raplsworks.com). The address the request comes from (your site’s server, not a visitor’s) is recorded by that server, and an approximate location is looked up from it through ipwho.is (only the address is sent there; the licence key and email address are not). Every download, from the download page or by the plugin’s automatic updates, also sends the email address and licence key, and the download is logged. What section 5 describes is sent from your site directly to each service, not through our server. See our Privacy Policy for details.

After 14 days from the date of purchase, refunds are as a rule not available, given the nature of digital goods. If you suspect a double charge or a billing error on our part, however, please contact us regardless of how long it has been.

The free plugin is published on WordPress.org. Before buying, we recommend checking the following with the free plugin:

• Whether copies from the post body are recorded with your theme (log out or use another browser, and copy 20 characters or more)
• Whether the notification emails arrive
• Compatibility with your other plugins and your theme, in particular caching, optimisation and mail-sending plugins
• Whether the features you need are in Pro (for repost detection, whether you can get a Brave Search API or SerpApi key, and what it costs)

12Pricing Pro

The price of a Pro licence is subject to change without prior notice. Licences purchased before a price change will be honored at the purchase price.

13Support

Technical support is provided to licence holders for one year from purchase. Support is limited to basic usage of the Plugin and resolution of technical issues. Site-specific customisations, your server’s mail setup, accounts and fees for external services (chat and search services), compatibility issues with third-party plugins, and legal questions may not be covered by support. Please note that depending on the nature of the inquiry and circumstances, we may not be able to respond immediately.
